The Heatings made from loden inherently carry the heat within them: Loden is created through friction, pressure, and heat - a material transformation process. Here, heat is a physical, social, and spiritual energy that enables change.
Otto retreated from her studio on Berlin's Kurfürstendamm to a workshop in the countryside to handcraft her edition. The result is 30 unique pieces. The applied drops vary in number, size, and shape, evoking beads of sweat, tears, or breast milk.
The Heatings reference culturally feminized spheres of care, intimacy, and manual labor. They combine Beuys' idea of warmth as a creative force with Trockel's critical, feminist perspective on textile traditions. In doing so, they also direct our attention to the aesthetic, social, and political dimensions of care work.

Eglė Otto
The painter Eglė Otto explores bodies as bearers of social attributions and as sites of individual experience. Between abstraction and figuration, she develops a visual language that rethinks feminist art history and consciously places the female gaze at its center.
