Andreas Lang, Deer and Car

Andreas Lang, Deer and Car

€750,00

Andréas Lang is searching for symbolic images of social conditions. In Japan in 2025, he encounters a society that fascinates him: it lives in close connection with nature and is simultaneously highly technological. In Western European cultural history, nature and technology form a strong pair of opposites.

The photograph Deer and Car was taken in Nara, the oldest imperial capital of Japan. The deer here are considered divine messengers of the deity of the Kasuga Taisha Shrine, which is located on the edge of the park. The photograph captures a surreal scene that oscillates between peaceful and idyllic and post-apocalyptic, offering ample room for inspiration.

Andreas Lang
The photographer intensively explores themes such as memory, history, colonialism, and identity. His series of images deal with landscapes and their hidden histories, whether historical, mythological, or personal. He calls his approach "visual archaeology." The resulting images uncover hidden historical traces and collective memory, connecting past with present, reality with imagination.
