Nähstück #001 marks the beginning of a larger series of stitched paper works that brings together Heiner Franzen's films, collages, and drawings. The work takes as its point of departure the twins from Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. Formally, Franzen explores the line between contour and connection, investigating the qualities of seams, thread, and needle perforations as tools of drawing. He is known for his distinctive and immediately recognizable visual language. How much can a form be reduced while remaining unmistakably itself?
The edition is presented in an acrylic glass frame specially developed and assembled by the artist for his paper works. Within it, the layered Nähstück appears to float, with its loose threads suspended in space.
